SIT Report on Gaurav Gogoi’s Alleged Pakistan Links Expected Today: Assam CM

Guwahati, September 10:

In a significant political development in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has stated that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged Pakistan links of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief Gaurav Gogoi is expected to submit its report today, September 10.

The statement came after the Assam cabinet meeting held on Tuesday, September 9, where the CM addressed the media and highlighted several important issues related to flood relief, education, immigration, and infrastructure projects.

CM’s Statement on SIT Report

Responding to questions from the press, CM Sarma clarified that the SIT has not been given any specific deadline for completing the investigation. However, he indicated that the report is likely to be submitted either to him or to the Chief Secretary by the evening of September 10.

“The findings will be submitted either to me or the Chief Secretary. Once I read the report, I will decide on the next step,” Sarma said.

The Chief Minister further mentioned that the SIT has not sought any extension of time for the probe and is working within its own schedule.

Possible Next Steps

According to CM Sarma, the future course of action will depend entirely on the contents of the SIT report:

  • If the report reveals serious concerns, the matter will be escalated to the Prime Minister or the Union Home Minister.
  • If no substantial issues emerge, the case will be closed at the Chief Minister’s level.

The CM also added that he would personally seek an update on the SIT’s progress by 6 pm on Wednesday, September 10.

Political Implications

The SIT probe into Gaurav Gogoi’s alleged Pakistan links has sparked heated political debate in Assam. While the government has maintained that the investigation is being conducted fairly, opposition leaders have criticized it as a politically motivated move.

The outcome of the SIT report, expected today, could potentially shape the political climate in Assam in the coming weeks.
